Gran Turismo 7 developer Polyphony Digital has revealed Spec 3, the largest content update for the simulation racer to date. The Spec 3 update will be rolled out to Gran Turismo 7 players this December and introduce lots of new cars, tracks, features, events, and more.
Polyphony Digital has maintained a regular cadence of free monthly updates for Gran Turismo 7 since the game launched in March 2022. The latest Gran Turismo 7 update for September 2025 — Update 1.63 — included five new cars, some fresh World Circuits events, and a new Scapes location, which is par for the course for the game’s monthly patches. However, just a day after Update 1.63 dropped for Gran Turismo 7, Polyphony Digital has spilled the beans on an upcoming major update.
At PlayStation’s recent September 2025 State of Play, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi made a surprise appearance to announce the Gran Turismo 7 Spec 3 update. Slated to release in December 2025, Spec 3 is touted to be the biggest and most substantive update for Gran Turismo 7 so far, and will be completely free for PS4 and PS5 players. Preliminary details for the Gran Turismo 7 Spec 3 update confirm the addition of two new tracks: Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi and the Montreal-based Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
The Spec 3 update will also bolster the Gran Turismo 7 car list with eight new additions, including the Mitsubishi FTO, Ferrari 296 GT3, Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 tuned by Japanese firm Mine’s, and an original F1 car that seems to draw inspiration from those of the early 2000s. A new Data Logger feature will be added as well, which will let Gran Turismo 7 players view a graph of their throttle and brake inputs after a race to find areas where they can improve. Other notable changes include the removal of expiry dates for Brand Central invitations, an increased Collector Level cap (beyond 50), a new intro cinematic, and more.
Interestingly, the Gran Turismo 7 Spec 3 update is reportedly numbered “1.64.” Given that the latest update was numbered 1.63, this implies that there will be no new content updates for Gran Turismo 7 in October and November. Still, the sheer breadth of content in the Gran Turismo 7 Spec 3 update will likely make up for the gap. Alongside the announcement of Spec 3, Yamauchi also revealed that the Gran Turismo series has cumulatively sold over 100 million units — a staggering achievement for PlayStation’s powerhouse racing franchise.
